Using Pantone's colour palettes into the garden
A sense of harmony is the key emotion that the Pantone Institute is wanting to convey with Mocha Mousse, the colour of the year for 2025. Surrounded by plenty of comfort and a sense of richness or luxury.
Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director Pantone Color Institute describes the colour as,
‘Underpinned by our desire for every day pleasures, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse expresses a level of thoughtful indulgence. Sophisticated and lush, yet at the same time an unpretentious classic, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse extends our perceptions of the browns from being humble and grounded to embrace aspirational and luxe.’
Mocha Mousse is also about sustainable living, the natural world, choosing organic and ultimately being grounded with an element of modernity. All attributes that are equally applicable to outdoor living and the garden. There are a few flowers, particularly dahlias and irises, in shades of brown, although it is more colour is mainly found in either soil or bark. As much as I love textured bark it’s not a colour that would dominate a border when it comes to planting, I see it being used as more of a backdrop. Thankfully the Pantone Institute have put together five palettes that show us how it can be curated.
