Tiny vegetables, both for decoration and growing your own, in small spaces are one of this year’s top garden trends. It is taking the popularity of growing herbs one step further, by mixing them in with table top vegetables. Herbs are still popular plants to grow, perfect for small spaces and to encourage pollinators into the garden. I often find bees buzzing round the flowers on oregano and sage, while the butterflies flit from the marjoram to chives. Not only do they look pretty, but the flavour of freshly picked herbs added straight to salads and sauces, is hard to beat.

There are a few reasons for seeing a rise in people growing tiny vegetables, in with herbs. The first is, the joy of having fresh produce to pick, with in arms reach. Food that is ready to turn into or flavour dinner. Secondly, many more people are wanting portable gardens, a trend I wrote about in this blog. Having garden elements that you can take with you, given the rise in the number of people renting isn’t surprising. Often, it is not possible to make changes to a rented garden and we want to take our own little haven with us, to the next home.
